New polysaccharide, the manufacturing method and designates its polysaccharide as the active ingredient the anti- tumor medicine

PURPOSE:To produce a new polysaccharide useful as an antineoplastic exhibiting reduced toxicity and side effect while having excellent antineoplastic characteristics by cultivating a specific lactic acid bacterium producing a capsular mucilage and separating and collecting the polysaccharide shown by a specific formula from the cell or culture medium. CONSTITUTION:Streptococcus lactis and/or cremoris, a lactic acid bacterium producing a capsular mucilage, is cultivated; from the cell and/or culture medium, a new polysaccharide of the formula (wherein Glc is a glucose residue; Gal is galactose residue; Rha is a rhamnose residue; each number indicates the site of bonding; m is 0-3; and n is the number of repeating units) is separated and collected. The obtd. polysaccharide is useful as an antineoplastic exhibiting remarkably reduced toxicity and side effect while having excellent antineoplastic characteristics.
