PURPOSE:To unnecessitate a carrier guide lid and to accelerate the processing by using a magnetic head as the carrying guide in the passbook processing device performing the reading and writing of the magnetic information section of the passbook by the scanning of the magnetic head. CONSTITUTION:When a passbook is carried on an opening section 37a formed on a carrying path and provided to move a magnetic head 32 performing the reading and writing of the magnetic information section of a passbook 21, a head supporting control means 24 moves the magnetic head in the carrying direction. The passbook to be carried is supported at least by the magnetic head at the end part of the carrying direction on the opening section. Thus, the magnetic head serves as the carrying guide in carrying the passbooks.
