PURPOSE: To improve fatigue strength without increasing the weight of an axle beam for automobile. ;CONSTITUTION: In the condition of imparting tensile stress to the lower face 1b of a front axle beam 1 by applying compressive load P to spring sheets 3, 3 provided on the upper face 1a of the front axle beam 1 for automobile supported with both ends, shot peening is applied to the lower face 1b of this front axle beam 1. Therefore, since the surface layer on the lower face 1b of front axle beam 1 is spread in the condition of imparting the tensile stress, by removing the load P to the spring sheets 3, 3 after shot peening, the high compressive residual stress is left on the lower face 1b of front axle beam 1 and by this compressive residual stress, the fatigue strength of the front axle beam 1 is further improved.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO&Japio
