PURPOSE: To provide a method and a data processor for delimiting a closed contour image with a convex polygon. ;CONSTITUTION: In a first step, the binary array expression of an inputted object having a closed contour regarding a reference coordinate system is produced. Then a contour polygon is produced as the continuation of parallel bands each of which expresses the opposite side of one side of the polygon with respect to the binary array. The boundary polygon is directed and positioned by the continuous and uniformly even rotation of the coordinate system and defines the boundary of a closed contour to the angular rotational angle of the coordinate system. The interval between the bands and the positions of the bands are used for defining the size and position of the polygon at each angle. In this way, comparison among a plurality of polygons is systematically performed by using a geometric reference.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1994,JPO
