PURPOSE:To convey the root part to a planting hole without falling a tree by digging in the ground around the tree to the root part thereof with a pair of forks of a liftable and lowerable digging out device mounted on a self-propelled vehicle, fixing and digging up the root part with a pair of bars. CONSTITUTION:A tree is dug up and conveyed as follows using a digging up device 12 for the tree liftably and lowerably mounted in the front of a self-propelled vehicle 11, such as bulldozer. That is the device 12 is operated with the vehicle 11 to provide a pair of bars 20 pivoted on both left and right sides of a frame 15 of the device 12 with nearly a vertical upward directing state. A pair of forks 16 pivoted under both left and right sides of the frame 15 are lowered in nearly a vertical downward directing opened state and changed into a state to plow up ground. Thereby, left and right ground of the root part of the tree is cut. The pair of bars 20 are then changed into a state of nearly a horizontal inward directing closed state and the pair of forks 16 are simultaneously turned to nearly a horizontal inward directing closed state. In this state, the tree is then dug out from the root part while preventing the tree from falling and held by the device 12. The tree is subsequently conveyed to a planting hole.
