PURPOSE:To improve the maintenability of the entire system by providing a remote carrying equipment having a conversion function into an optical signal at a 2nd transmission speed faster than a 1st transmission speed. CONSTITUTION:A central station carrying equipment 1 is provided, which has a function multiplexing plural subscriber line signals into a PCM primary group signal at a 1st transmission speed and an opposite function thereto. Moreover, a remote carrying equipment 3 is provided, which has a function terminating a PCM primary group signal in a PCM frame level, adding plural bits and converting the signal into an optical signal at a 2nd transmission speed faster than the 1st transmission speed and a function opposite thereto. Furthermore, an optical line terminator 5 is provided, which has a function terminating the optical signal at the 2nd transmission speed in the subscriber's equipment, converting the signal into an electric signal and restoring optional number of PCM signals included in the converted signal into an original voice signal and a function opposite thereto. Thus, the maintenability of the entire system is improved.
