PURPOSE: To provide a variable wavelength multiwavelength optical fiber laser composition by the use of a single pump light source. ;CONSTITUTION: The output of a single pump light source (LD) is inputted into a wavelength division multicoupler(WDM-C), and optical fibers (EDF) containing erbium (Er) being in a large number of optical paths branched by a multibranch optical fiber coupler (1×N coupler) are pumped, and a variable wavelength optical filter (TF) is inserted into each optical path. In each optical path an optical isolator (ISO) is used, and an optical attenuator (Atu) is used so as to make multiwavelength laser oscillation possible by adjusting the mode beating between modes of each wavelength. A variable optical fiber coupler (VC) performs a function of adjusting the coupling ratio of a laser resonator so as to make the output of the optical fiber laser maximum, and plays a role of an output terminal. To make an optical attenuator unnecessary in a one-side optical path (Path 1), the length of the erbium (Er) optical fiber (EDF1) is changed composed of those of other optical paths.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
