The invention relates to a method and a plant for thetreatment of waste material and for the elimination of selectedcomponents in it, mainly nitrogen, carbon and/or biologicalphosphorus compunds or their derivatives. The waste which is inthe form of a water flow being biomass, also includingmicroorganisms is received in a reactor or in a series of reactorshaving flow interconnection. The waste is treated by controllingthe metabolitic activity of the microorganisms by registering thespeed of oxygen consumption by the biomass.
