Weld metal used in electron beam welding of aluminium alloys is an aluminium-magnesium-silicon alloy of type 6061, whose Mg/Si ratio is at least the stoichiometric ratio, preferably at least 1.75 by weight. Also claimed are electron beam welding using the weld metal and a component so welded.
