In the present invention there are disclosed of 2,2'-dihydroxy-1,1'-binaphthalene-3-carboxylic acid enantiomers of the general formulae 1 and 2. In the present invention there is also claimed a process for their preparation, which process comprises successive treating a racemic 2,2'-dihydroxy-1,1'-binaphthalene-3-carboxylic acid with diastereomeric natural nitrogen bases-cinchonidine and cinchonine. The invented process provides both the enantiomers of the binaphthalene acid in a very high optical purity. Agent as well as residues of unsplit acid are recycled, what makes the process very cost saving.
