PROCESS OF ROUGH DISINTEGRATION OF POLYMERIC GELS CONTAINING WATER TU LUMPS AND APPARATUS FOR MAKING THE SAME

A polymer gel (10) containing water and arranged in the form of a belt-like strand is simultaneously fragmented in both longitudinal and transverse directions, whereby in the longitudinal direction it is fragmented preferably continuously. Apparatus for making the above-described process has a pair of parallel rollers (11, 12) rotating in opposite directions with a gap (13) between them. Through this gap, (13) passes the polymer gel (10). One roller (11) is designed as a cutting roller having at least one longitudinal cutting element (14) with a radial peripheral cutting edge (18). At least one transverse cutting element (15) having an axially oriented cutting edge (17) is attached on either side to the longitudinal cutting element (14). The other roller is designed as a mating pressure roller (12).
