The present invention provides a novel amino acid sequence of toxins from Centruroides genus scorpions, which is effective against insects, but non-toxic for mammals. These basic polypeptides comprise from 60 to 70 amino acids, eight cisteine residues in equivalent positions, and show a similarity of 59 percent. The present invention further provides a novel cDNA sequence which encode for one of the toxins herein disclosed.
