An internal combustion engine of the Otto or Diesel type has a cylinder block (2) rotating about a central axis in direction (A) with at least one cylinder (3). Each cylinder in the block has a piston with a connecting rod attached to a stationary shaft (4) at the end remote from the piston. The centre line of the fixed shaft (4) does not coincide with the centre line of the cylinder block axis.
