A weldable austenitic stainless steel with high machinability and improved cold workability, characterised in that its weight composition is the following: C lower than 0.1 %, Si lower than 2 %, Mn lower than 2 %, S lower than 0.03 %, Ni between 8 and 10 %, Cr between 15 and 25 %, P lower than or equal to 0.04 %, Mo lower than 0.5 %, Cu between 1 and 5 %, N between 0.02 and 0.07 %, Ca higher than 30x10-4 %, O higher than 70x10-4 %, Al lower than 50x10-4 %, the Ca/O ratio being between 0.3 and 0.6.
