RIM ELEMENT FOR A MASS EXCHANGE COLUMN GASKET AND MASS EXCHANGE COLUMN INCORPORATING SUCH RIM ELEMENTS

The rim element (3) for the packing (2) of a mass transfer column (1), in the transfer part (2) of which, in particular, an upwardly flowing gas and a liquid flowing in counter-current are brought into contact, serves for deflecting these mass streams. An annular gap (12) between the packing and column wall (10) is substantially covered by tab-shaped parts (30) of the rim element. According to the invention, the rim element (3) is a separate component which has the following features: regions (31) of the rim element with expanded surface are provided for promoting contact with the packing (2); the covering parts (30) are spring-connected to the packing-contacting regions (31); and the cross-sectional profile of the rim element has a radial dimension which enables the rim element to be immobilised in the annular gap (12) by spring forces and frictional forces. The column can be inexpensively equipped with collar elements by means of the invention. IMAGE
