System comprising a magnetic-tape cassette and a magnetic-tape apparatus, andmagnetic-tape cassette, tape-cleaning means and tape-cleaning element for use in thesystem. A system comprising a magnetic-tape cassette (21) and a magnetic-tapeapparatus for recording and/or reproducing information in digital form on/from amagnetic tape (29), the information being stored in a plurality of parallel longitudinaltracks on the magnetic tape in successive information blocks in the longitudinaldirection of the magnetic tape, comprises error correction means (19) for correctingread errors in the digital information read from the magnetic tape. The error-correctionmeans (19) are capable of correcting a maximum number of n successive informationblocks on the magnetic tape. The magnetic-tape cassette has at least one tape-cleaningmeans (39, 41) comprising at least one tape-cleaning element (43, 45) having an activesurface which at least in operation is in contact with a coating side of the magnetic tape(29) and in a direction parallel to the longitudinal axis of the magnetic tape has adimension smaller than the overall longitudinal dimension of two times n informationblocks. As a result of this, the error correction means (19) are capable of at leastsubstantially correcting read errors which occur as a result of soiling of the magnetictape by the tape-cleaning means (39, 41).(Figure 2)
