A method for controlling the combustion of an end-burning explosive charge (4) comprises supplying an electric current through the charge combustion zone (9) using conductors (e.g. wires) which run the length of the charge. These conductors are connected to a power source (27) and are also used to remove current from the charge. A projectile firing device utilising this method is also claimed, comprising a firing tube (1), a projectile (3) and an explosive charge (4) located behind the projectile, designed to be burnt in order to fire the projectile out of the tube. At least one pair of conductors are provided, along with tools (7, 8) for connecting the conductors to the power source.
