Bicycle rear wheel with flangeless hub - has hub without radial flanges having two sets of non L=shaped straight enlarged ended spokes retained in holes around annular hub ends
The wheel has two sets of spokes (2,3) which connect the rim by means of straight, not bent L-shaped, ends (2a,3a) to the flangeless ends of the hub (1). The ends of the hub are annular with a series of holes (15) arranged around the whole circumference. The spokes are inserted into the holes and retained by their enlarged ends (2b,3b) against the inner wall of the ring. The ends of the spokes are all in the same plane so that they create no vortices in the air. The angle of the spokes w.r.t. the plane at right angles to the rotational axis of the wheel, and hence also the transverse stiffness of the wheel, is maximised and is not limited by the proximity of the spoke heads to sprockets.
