GAS BURNER ASSEMBLY FOR SIMULATING A NATURAL LOG FIRE

An inexpensive and easily maintained gas burnerassembly achieves the manufacturing and maintenanceadvantages of the conventional sand pan burner design inaddition to the heat output and fuel efficiency of morecomplex burner designs. The invention comprises a trayhaving a bottom wall and sidewalls defining an interiorand an open top. A cover channel having a midsectionsegment and at least two downwardly depending flanges isadapted to fit in the interior of the tray to form amixing chamber between the cover channel and the tray.The downwardly depending flanges are spaced away from thesidewalls of the tray to form gaps suitable for fillingwith a noncombustible granular substance, such as sand orcrushed pumice stone. The cover channel additionallycomprises at least one projection extending above the topsegment and defining at least one burner port. Theprojection is preferably a longitudinal ridge defining aplurality of burner ports.
