INTEGRATION OF TV VIDEO WITH IR TRACKER FEATURES

A tracking system (200) adapted to receive inputimagery and provide standard television format videoinput signals in response thereto. The video inputsignals are processed (228) to provide intermediateanalog and digital signals. The intermediate analogsignals are further processed (239) to provide centroidtracking of a target. The intermediate digital signalsare processed (236) to provide correlation tracking ofthe target. In a specific implementation, the standardtelevision format video input signals are provided by acharge coupled device (214), a Vidicon camera, aninfrared focal plane array, a Newvicon camera or otherdevice which generates standard television format videosignals. A video rotation circuit may be used to provideproper image orientation regardless of the mountingorientation of the system. The invention provides atracking system which allows for the direct use of videosignals from a camera or other signal by a digitalprocessing system without the requirement for scanconversion.
