COMPUTERIZED SYSTEM FOR ASSESSING, RECORDING AND REPORTING RISK OF DENTAL DISEASES

An apparatus for assessing, recording and reporting the risk of dental diseaseand selecting a treatment option from among a plurality of predefined options basedon the risk assessment is disclosed. The apparatus is preferably a world wide webserver which may be accessed by a plurality of satellite stations adapted to connect tothe web server through a data communications service. All dental patientdemographic data is stored in a database accessed by the web server. The riskassessment is based on a plurality of predefined risk indicators which are expressedas numeric variables representing risk factors relevant to a given patient's risk ofdental disease. Forms are downloaded from the web server on demand to thesatellite stations and the variables are uploaded to the web server for computing arisk assessment value using the variables and a predefined weight factor assigned toeach variable. The risk assessment value is then used as a variable for determining atreatment option selected for the patient from among a plurality of predefinedtreatment options. A bacterial assessment may be used as a second variable forselecting a treatment plan for patients at risk of disease. The advantage is acentralized system which is readily maintained to keep current with medical researchand a central repository of patient treatment information for verifying the efficacy ofpreventive treatments.
