There is provided a method and apparatus for accelerating thedecomposition of petroleum and petro-chemical based contaminants withinexpended filter media by exposing the contaminated filter media to anoxidizing medium which contains active ingredients for oxidizing thepetroleum and petro-chemical based compounds, such as petroleum digestingbacteria, within a sealed container.
