Turbulence is controlled in boundary layer orwall-bounded fluid flow fields having a turbulent wall regionwhich under natural conditions, has an average system ofroll pairs or streaks adjacent the surface, and extending inthe direction of flow, by locally introducing into theturbulent wall region, by passive means, a disturbance thatenhances or inhibits the roll pairs thereby locallyincreasing or decreasing the turbulence in the flow field.
