The positioning system involves a telescope having a primary mirror (3) and a secondary mirror (5) having a support (8). The support includes two elongated rods (10) mounted radially and crossing each other so that they lie on perpendicular axes (XX,YY) passing via the centre (0) of the support. The support centre lies at the summit of the secondary mirror. The rods are longitudinally rigid but transversely flexible, being displaceable in their longitudinal directions by two corresp. actuators (11) mounted in the frame surrounding the support. The actuators can be piezoelectric devices responding to control signals to position the mirror.
