ADAPTIVE PROCESS MODELLING AND CONTROL OF RULE-BASED AGENTS

A rule-based data processing system includes a memory having stored therein a number of groups of agents, each group being defined by respective sets of rules, with the system running the respective sets of rules in parallel. The agents are in two clusters, the first being 'script agents' (51-54) which are arranged as a sequentially enabled chain, and 'operator agents' (64-67) arranged to carry out selected procedural steps. The selection of the step is made within each operator agent (65) on the basis of one or more external factors, and is triggered by the enablement of a script agent (51) of the sequence prior to that script agent (52) carrying a marker (60) identifying the operator agent.
