METHOD FOR AUTOMATIC DIFFERENTIATION IN A COMPUTER, SPECIALLY TO SIMULATE ELECTRONIC CIRCUITS

In computer-assisted circuit simulation, it is necessary to derive functional descriptions of electronic components, chiefly transistors, several times at numerous predefined points. According to the inventive method, an operator-based functional description is inputted in a corresponding functional notation which is then stored in the form of a generalized binary tree, and derived in various predefinable arithmetics by means of automatic differentiation methods according to the incremental or the decremental method. Functional values can be calculated at predefinable points using real number arithmetic or interval arithmetic.
