Process for the synthesis of fluoride glass by the sol-gel process and optical fiber of fluoride glass obtained by this process

The objective of the invention is to synthesise an impurity-free fluoride glass. This objective is attained with the aid of a process comprising the stages consisting in: - preparing a wet oxygenated gel from precursors containing all the constituent cations of the said fluoride glass, - hydrolysing this gel, - drying this gel, this process being characterised in that it additionally comprises the stage consisting in: - treating this oxygenated gel with a fluorinating agent in gaseous phase, at a temperature lower than the crystallisation temperature of the glass.
