A process is claimed for the prodn. of 1,4-butanediol mono-(meth)acrylate (I) by esterification of (meth)acrylic acid (MAA) with 1,4-butanediol (BD). In this process the aq. soln. of unreacted BD which is obtd. is worked up by converting the BD into tetrahydrofuran (THF) and sepg. the THF.
