Rubber insert for covering a cementious railway sleeper and method for installing the rubber insert in a sleeper

The insert covers the lower part of a sleeper (16), which has been cast in cement during installation of a railway track. The insert has circular openings (19,20) in its base (1). A rubber tube (11,12) formed integrally with the base extends vertically upwards from each opening, to approximately the open edge (6) of the insert. Vertical support rods (21,22) pass through the tubes and the sleeper. The tubes consist of the same material as the insert, and are formed with it in a suitable mould in a single injection-moulding process. The outer wall of each tube has ribs, which support themselves on the wall in the sleeper.
