A process and device are disclosed for measuring the spherical, prismatic and cylindrical effects of a spectacle lens by means of a measurement beam oriented towards a spectacle lens lying on a lens support. The invention is characterised in that an optical detector of engravings worked into certain surface areas of the spectacle lens (4) is provided. The optical detector has at least one light source arranged above the lens support and whose light is oriented towards an engraved area of the spectacle lens, as well as an optical receiving system (E) with a light sensor. The path (MS) of the measurement beam is oriented relative to the optical detector of engravings in such a way that the measurement beam extends through the spectacle lens (4) lying on the lens support and at the same time the area of the spectacle lens provided with engravings is lighted by the light source and may be sensed by the optical receiving system (E).
