The thermographic inspection method has the measured temperature of the HV overhead line at a critical point along its length, provided by a radiation thermometer or thermal imaging camera (3), compared with a maximum temperature for operation of a line breaker switch (8) when the maximum temperature is exceeded. The measured temperature values may be provided continuously or intermittently and transmitted to a control device (5) for evaluation, with an optical display and/or acoustic warning signal activated in conjunction with the operation of the line breaker.
