Method for measuring stringness of room temperature curable silicone sealant composition

The present invention provides a standard method of measuring the string gauge of a room temperature curable silicone sealant composition by maintaining a sealant tube at a constant angle on a surface to be extruded with the sealant. The surface is movable, and once the small beads of the sealant are applied on the surface, the surface of the sealant is moved at a constant speed until the sealant bead is broken from the raw material. The length of the resulting sealant string is then measured. Comparisons of measurements of a given composition to those measured in other compositions allow optimization of the sealant composition to minimize undesirable properties.
