The present invention relates to a method of orally administering a pharmacological formulation containing an oligonucleotide complementary to a gene to down-regulate gene expression in an animal body. The oligonucleotide to be administered has a non-phosphodiester nucleotide linkage and comprises at least one 2 ' -substituted ribonucleotide, wherein the oligonucleotide inhibits the expression of the gene product and down-regulates the expression of the gene.
