A hygiene article, especially a disposable nappy or a sanitary towel, comprises a back sheet which is liquid tight, a top sheet which is liquid porous, and a hydrophilic, absorbing intermediate layer. The latter has an edge border which is attached to the back sheet. The hydrophilic absorbing intermediate layer is applied in liquid form using a press roller, and the liquid then solidifies.
