The invention concerns a composite membrane consisting of a microporous carrier membrane and a separation layer applied thereto. The composite membrane is characterized in that the separating layer comprises a block copolyetherester and is /= 3 mu m thick. The composite membrane enables polar gases (water vapour, hydrogen sulphide) to be separated selectively from gaseous mixtures, and can be used, for example, to dry natural gas before it is fed into a central supply system.
