The laser pulse energy setting method uses a Pockel cell (4) simultaneously acting as a Q-switch and as a modulator for the pulse energy of the emitted laser pulses (10). The laser medium is provided by a solid laser rod (3a), which is pumped by a pair of laser diodes (3b,3c), with a polarised beam splitter (5) and the Pockel cell inserted between the laser rod and the output mirror (6) providing the emitted laser pulses.
