The sensor is made up of two multi-loop arrangements (24). These are coupled to a coupling structure which has at least one Joseph contact (K). The sensor is made of supra-conductive material of the HTS or high temp. supra-conductive type. The at least one Joseph contact (K) is protected by a supra-conductive protective layer (100) against direct interference from external magnetic fields. The protective layer (100) is arranged at a distance in the sub-micrometer to micrometer range from the Joseph contact(s) (K). The surface of the SQUID loops (24) may be shielded against high frequency interference fields by a coating with an electrically conductive layer with a specific electrical resistance of at least 1 Ohm per cm.
