The particle identification method uses identification of signal sections of the optical signals obtained from the sample using individual photon detection, upon illumination of the sample by a light source. Each particle generates a signal component when it lies within the measuring volume of a detection unit, the optical signals divided into sections and a statistical value provided for each section, evaluated for detection of the particle signal component.
