PURPOSE: To enable proper engine outputs to be set at high altitudes by detecting the current position of the vehicle through the reception of GPS waves from artificial satellites, and automatically limiting the engine outputs at high altitudes on the basis of a plurality of data of various kinds stored in an output limiting device mounted in the vehicle. ;CONSTITUTION: GPS waves are received from artificial satellites Sl, S2, S3, and using the waves a position detector 3 detects the current position and altitude and the expected highest temperature during the detection period at that position and altitude. On the basis of the detected altitude and the expected highest temperature, data is read from memories 5A to 5D in which plural data are stored, and a data processing unit 6 calculates the output limiting rate of an engine at high altitudes.
