The fitting has a spring-loaded drive with viscous retarder has a modular construction which can be fitted to a variety of fittings to provide a controlled opening movement. The retarder (4) is fitted into the centre of a drive gear (6) and has a coil spring drive (9) and a ratchet control arm (10) fitted to a base support plate (15). The coil spring is fitted between lugs (15) on the retarder and mounting brackets (13) on the base plate. The shaft (5) of the retarder is located in a hole in the base plate. The whole fitting provides a compact unit for mounting on the accessory.
