The crane has a horizontal jib (104) which reach from the land side to over the ship. Several travellers (107) run under the jib each supporting a container using a winch system. At the outer end of the jib special guide track enable each traveller to run out past the jib and return on the top of the jib, using rollers under each traveller. At the land side end of the jib a similar guide feeds each traveller back under the jib. In this way several containers are transferred at the same time. The system is reversed for unloading a ship. The lifting frame of each winch system is fully retracted before the traveller is run over the top of the jib. The end guides on the jib can be set in one of two directions to convert between loading and unloading of the ship.
