The stool (1) has a seat (12) located on a rigid shaft (15) which located in a guide in a T-shaped footing (20). The guide is built as an upright cylindrical helical spring (25), where one end is attached to a base plate of the footing. The free end section of the shaft is inserted in the hollow cylinder enclosed by the spring leaving a slight amount of play between the two. The spring has a height of between 100 and 150 mm, and has such bending characteristics that the stool is returned to the vertical position in the unloaded state. A horizontal force of 30 N acting on the seat will deflect the shaft of the stool through an angle of 5 degrees to the horizontal.
