The procedure is for operating an electric feed water pump (9) for a steam turbine power plant. There is a feed water tank (1) operated with variable pressure. In the context of the starting operation, with the initiation of the minimum quantity operation through the pump, the suction pipe of the pump is subjected to condensate from the condensate pipeline after the low pressure preheater. The feed of the amount of condensate corresponds to the minimum amount and after adjustment of the housing temperature, the pump is converted into the reserve position. Between the suction pipe of the pump and the condensate pipeline after the low pressure preheater, a condensate feed line is connected with an adjusting device.
