Service unit for battery-powered variable-speed lawn mower

The service unit (3) is used in conjunction with a base (1) and communications (2) module connected by multicore cable (7) which collectively comprise a computer-controlled battery source for the drive-motor and its associated speed regulating mosfet switches and braking equipment. Module (1) also incorporates a non-volatile memory in which original manufacture's data together with accumulated operational data is stored to provide protection against overload/over temperature of the motor, battery and mosfets. Module (2) has an indicator unit (4) in which one or more LEDs(5) form an optical link for the serial transmission of data to the service unit (3) for e.g. fault diagnosis, maintenance and repairs.
