Process for obtaining numerical values for the visual gloss -, smoothness - and thickness feels when observing an applied ink film

The method of evaluating the brightness and clearness of an applied colour film involves projecting a light and dark pattern onto the surface of the film. The projected pattern is converted into a two-dimensional light and dark pattern. Disturbances in the two-dimensional light and dark pattern are divided into a number of local frequency regions, each of which is independently quantitatively evaluated. USE/ADVANTAGE - Esp. for producing numerical estimated values with good correlation to corresp. organoleptic values. Improved method eliminates some disadvantages of conventional methods and uses surface condition detection and evaluation mechanism similar to that of human visual observation.
