The method involves a mobile radio network (PLMN) informing subscribers (MSO,MSI,MSX) about messages (M1-3) stored for them in an external network device (VMC). One or more control signs (FLO,FLI,FLX) are determined for the subscribers in the network. A special call number is set if a stored message exists. It can be reset by another special call (FLRN) after accessing of the stored message. Pref. each subscriber is assigned an individual control sign. Typically in the mobile network is transmitted an extra signal indicating the setting or resulting of the control signal. A common control sign, however, may be used for a group, on all, of subscribers.
