Glass ceramic - materials, in particular for the laser and the optical amplifier, the doped with elements of the rare earths, and process for their preparation

Rare earth-doped glass-ceramic materials, esp. for lasers and optical intensifiers, are optically non-diffusive (non-scattering) and are rare earth-doped in the microcrystalline phase. A glass-ceramic material prodn. process involves (a) producing a mixt. of glass-formers consisting of complexes of at least trivalent metals and halides of at least trivalent rare earth elements; and (b) subjecting the mixt. to melting, casting the heat treatment, esp. at 400-470 deg C., to form the above glass-ceramic materials.
