PURPOSE:To remove NOx, SOx and unburnt carbonaceous matter from exhaust gas by passing the exhaust gas through a catalyst bed having a through-hole in the gas flow direction and packed with many catalyst formed bodies each carrying specified three kinds of catalytic metallic components in the presence of a reducing agent. CONSTITUTION:Three components, namely =1 kind of oxide (component A) among Ti, Si and Zr, =1 kind of oxide (component B) between Mo and V and V oxide (component C), are deposited on a carrier, and the content of the component B and that of the component C are increased on the gas inlet side of the catalyst formed body to form a catalyst formed body for purifying exhaust gas by the catalytic reduction method. Many formed bodies having a through-hole in the gas flow direction are packed to form a catalyst bed. Exhaust gas passes through the bed, and the NOx in the exhaust gas are brought into contact with the catalyst formed body at 250-550 deg.C in the presence of a reducing agent, reduced and removed.
