Steel cord for reinforcing elastomeric products and a pneumatic radial tire having such steel cables

PURPOSE: To obtain a steel cord for a belt layer in a radial tire excellent in durability by winding plural steel fine wires as sheath filament around a crimp curled core of a specific shape. ;CONSTITUTION: Planar wavy forming (crimping) and rotation (curling) are applied to one steel fine wire with a carbon content within the range of 0.80-0.85% to form a crimp curled core having a shape of a core crimped wavelength (λ_c) within the range of 8 (de)≤λ_c≤30 (de) when the wire diameter of the core fine wire is (de) and the number of revolutions [n_c (turns/pitch)] per core crimped wavelength with the core center as an axis satisfying 0.12≤(n_c)≤0.85. The same 5-8 steel fine wires as that described above as sheath filament are then wound around the periphery of the crimp curled core in the same direction as the rotation to form a steel cord for reinforcing a rubber article good in rubber penetrability.
