The airborne weather radar system has a controller providing a trigger signal for initiating radar transmission. A transmitter is connected to the controller and responds to the trigger signal to provide a transmitter signal. An antenna connected to the transmitter transmits a radar signal which is intercepted by a target. The antenna receives a reflected signal and produces an output. A receiver connected to the antenna produces a receiver signal. Signals corresp. to the aircraft altitude and the radar system antenna tilt angle are produced. A sensitivity time control generator is connected to the aircraft altitude and antenna tilt angle signal units and the controller to provide an STC signal as a function of time from transmission of the radar signal, aircraft altitude and antenna tilt angle. A signal indicative of a normalized return signal from the target at high as well as low aircraft altitudes is produced.
